Portadown took part in their first cup competition for the 2008/2009 season on Saturday 25th October 2008.
The competition was played at the Badminton Centre in Lisburn and with 3 other teams in their division it was played on a round-robin basis.
The first match of the day saw Portadown drawn against the cup favourites Alpha. The opposition lived up to their early billing and the Portadown team only manged to win 2 of the opening games.
Next up was the team from St. Anne's Dungannon. William Hill and Steven Lowry had a very tight first mens which they managed to take, but the ladies pairing of Heather Morton and Jane Johnston where unlucky to lose the ladies match to a tie-breaker. The second pairings of Sammy Hughes/Ivan Lowry and Amy McCall/Shirley Boff came up against 2 experienced pairings and were unlucky not to take anything from the games. The mixed pairings faired a little better and after some tight games managed to take a share of the spoils.
For the final match of the cup the Portadown Team took on the Saddleforth team from Coleraine. The long day seemed to have taken a toll on the Portadown team and although the games were very tight with several going to tie-breakers the over-all score did not reflect this.
